Day-tripping to the antique market ...

Today I ventured to one of my favourite places, the local antique market, to hunt for some goodies. And I found them, in spades.

A pack of vintage brooches and a pendant, under five bucks!

I have a thing for big chunky gold jewelry ...

1960's and 50's knitwear guides and a September 1950 issue of LIFE magazine. Super thick and full of gorgeous colour photos.

Vintage hardtop cosmetic train case. Perfect for weekend trips.

SUPER find. Patsy Walker's Fashion Parade! Adorable 1966 "Fashion Comic" full of wonderful ensembles and "heavenly hairdos". I am so happy to have this in my collection!

I also stopped at the candy store of course, to pick up some treats.
Lucky Elephant pink popcorn, French Chew Taffy, piña colada and watermelon honey sipper straws, Dentyne classic cinnamon gum, bubblegum and candy cigarettes, and yum-delicious clove gum.

Close-ups and more in this photo set.

Designing Woman

Lately, I've been getting back to my old hobby of playing around in Photoshop. Today's fussing and fiddling produced the above work. It's a faux DVD cover for the imaginary Criterion version of the Virgin Suicides. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, since I'm a bit rusty with the old graphic design.
I've been quite madly in love with illustration and design lately, and so I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite Criterion covers.

Reminds me of the illustrations in Le Petit Prince.

Simple, creepy, to the point.

What are your favourite Criterion (or other) DVD covers? I'm probably going to do a separate post just on film posters!

New Look

Yes, An Aesthetic Feast finally has a bit more of a snazzy layout. See: above. Look at the little cartoon me! what do you think?
And yes, I made it myself.
:)

Hope everyone has a great weekend! More updates to come.

Unpaid Product Endorsement Alert

I don't know if any of you have noticed, but I'm a product junkie. I think a good career fit for me would be beauty editor at a magazine. Just sayin' ... (who's hiring?) If I love a beauty product, I love it, and won't shut up about it.

Today I'm here to introduce you to Moom's Organic Sugar-Based Hair Remover. Summer weather has started (finally), and it's time to strip yourself of your wooly winter leg fur and break out the shiny, smooth gams.

First off, it smells delicious. It's made out of sugar, lemon juice and rose essence. You almost want to eat it (but don't, please). Microwave it for about 10 seconds, then spread it on your legs, apply one of the (reusable, washable!) fabric strips over the "moom". Gosh, I just love the name, don't you? In the directions, they refer to waxing as "moom-ing". Too cute.
It's quick, gets rid of every little hair, and washes off so easily. You know how most waxes leave an awful film all over your skin that takes vigorous scrubbing to remove? This stuff just dissolves under a warm wash cloth. It's wonderful.
P.S. If you have sensitive skin, do not fear. I have some of the most sensitive skin known to man, and Moom was gentle and lovely on my tender lil' legs.

Convinced? Buy it online! They have other formulations and products as well to get you smooth and beach ready legs.
Yvonne says, "get Moomin' for gams like these!*"

*I don't think Moom was invented back then but hey, you get the picture.

I just signed up for that big enigma which is Twitter. Do any of you use it? What do you think of it?

Here's mine ... I can't guarantee it will be super interesting!

Quick post

My outfit worn on this beautiful sunny day (today!) inspired by Jean Seberg in Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless (À bout de souffle). The stripes in her movie wardrobe are overwhelming! (I'm a stripe addict.) Very much daydreaming about having short hair again, but I'll keep my lengthy locks for the time being.

Dress, worn as top - American Apparel
Skirt (it has pockets!) - H&M
Satin rosette flats - H&M
Frame bag - vintage
Sunglasses - Forever 21
Gold chain necklace - vintage
