Food, always -

This past weekend was Thanksgiving in Canada. This is ... one of my top 3 most favourite times of the year. As tradition, my family goes to a family friends' home and we eat the greatest meal of the year. Seriously. Just look at the photos.

Here is my place setting. It was at the end of the table on a big bench which was nice, because I was so full by the end of the night that I could just lay down and stretch out.

The "main" course. Beforehand we had broccoli salad, ambrosia salad and a garden salad with roasted applies, candied pecans, onions and blue cheese. Pictured here is the turkey, which I didn't eat due to being a pescitarian, but I'm sure it was lovely for the carniverous types. Roasted little carrots, onions, and Brussels sprouts (oh my gosh, so good), and the STUFFING. This is THE stuffing. Full of spices, apples, onions, celery, and crunchy chunks of delicious chewy bread ... just wonderful. Also served was a delicious cran-apple chutney and mashed potatoes, of course. Cherry Riesling got my face a little flushed throughout the course of dining.

Part of the dessert table. PECAN-PUMPKIN PIE, yes. Gingerbread chocolate chip cookies, and a grape pie. Not pictured is the apple crisp and fresh whipped cream. I just about died.

'Twas a meal that only comes once a year, and my stomach will cherish the memory.

Also on the food front, sometimes my sister and I get strange cravings in the middle of the night. Last week, it was for vegetable soup. So she made some from scratch.

Here it is bubbling and turning into the delicious creation it will be. Carrots, potatoes, onions, celery, lots of herbs and spices.

Saying hello from the bowl. It was delicious, and the perfect soup for anyone who may be suffering from a stuffed up nose.

Until next time ...
-H
